Jesus and Muhammad
Both religions present their founders as universal human exemplars. The Quran explicitly claims Muhammad is 'an excellent pattern' for all believers at all times. The historical records of both men — drawn from their respective traditions' own sources — produce very different pictures of what an excellent pattern looks like.
Key claims
- —Surah 33:21: Muhammad is "an excellent pattern" for all believers at all times — universal and binding
- —Jesus: love of enemies, forgiveness of executioners, tenderness toward outcasts, Sermon on the Mount
- —Sahih Bukhari 5:58:234: Aisha married at 6, consummated at 9 — confirmed in Sahih Muslim 8:3309–3311
- —"Cultural context" defense concedes Muhammad's conduct was conditioned — contradicting universal exemplar claim
- —Ka'b ibn al-Ashraf assassination authorized by Muhammad — Sahih Bukhari 5:59:369
- —If Sahih Bukhari can be wrong about Aisha's age, it can be wrong about the five pillars
